The Kansa tribe once lived in Missouri and Kansas. They were abruptly moved to Oklahoma where most now live.
Traditionally the men fought against nearby tribes and hunted using bows and arrows. Women farmed, producing corn, beans, sunflowers and squash. They found more food in the wilderness to supplement their food supply.
They wore moccasins, but in the cold winters they had warmer footwear. To move about in the nearby rivers, they used a bowl-shaped raft.
The Kansa people have their own police and local government, but they are subject to American law. Though they speak English, some are trying to revive their traditional Kansa language. They wear jeans and dress like the White public. Some hold good jobs while others are struggling.
The Kansa people have their own traditional rituals and spiritual practices. They still practice these as a cultural event, but most are also Christian.
Like all peoples, the Kansa need to put their faith in Jesus Christ. Some need job training.
Pray for the Kansa tribe to thrive economically and spiritually in the 2020s.
Pray for Kansa disciples to make more disciples leading to the blessing of their families and communities.
Pray for Kansa people to get the education they need to excel in Oklahoma.
